Here we bring you an easy guide on what to wear and what to shun as you start the crazy and nostalgic journey that is college life. So get set to put your best ‘ fashion foot’ forward.

STYLE GOSPEL FOR GUYS

1. Commit to your denims
It’s impossible to go wrong with your favourite pair of denims. “ A well- fitting pair is a great investment for any guy. The more washed- out and rugged, the better the style statement,” says second year DU student Karan Gandhi. To try something different, you can fold the ends of your boot- cut denims or opt for a pair of skinnies to get that just out- of- school look. However, stick to the basics — no embellishments and no tricks.
2. Coloured trousers
Coloured trousers are slowly getting as popular as the good old blue and grey denims as the freshers’ preferred choice for day one in DU. They add some fun and spunk to your personal style and make you stand apart.“ Coloured pants look really cool, though one shouldn’t go overboard.Team your coloured bottoms with a neutral shirt or T- shirt,” suggests Ankit Sharma, an ex- DU student.

3. Tee- speak Speak your mind through your t- shirtStatement tees continue to be a big hit with DU boys. " Whether it’s my views on politics or relationships, I prefer expressing them through my tees,” says Atul Kumar, a final year student.Be it your favourite cartoon characters, rock bands, superheroes or catchy slogans and witty comments — wear it on your T- shirt. Go for bolder colours and don’t shy away from vibrant ones like orange, green, yellow or even hot pink.

4. Keep it easy
Flip- flops and shorts define the chilled- out look. “ In this humid weather you need to wear something light as DU classrooms are not air- conditioned,” says Sharma. You can go for vibrant colours for your flip- flops and match your shorts with smart and playful polo T- shirts.

5. Get grooming
From manicured hands to shapely eyebrows, guys are leaving no stone unturned to groom themselves. For hairstyles, the messy “ just out of bed” look is easy to get and fuss- free.

FOR THE DIVAS

1. Easy Breezy
Synchronise your attire with the humid weather and opt for summer dresses, shorts in pastel shades, floral skirts and the stylishyet- comfortable jumpsuits.“ You will find all of these in Sarojini Nagar at dirt- cheap rates, though it requires some serious hunting,” says Arushi Kapoor, a final- year MA student at DU. To take your stylequotient up a notch, pair highwaist shorts with puffed- sleeved shirts. Take advantage of the ongoing sales of all the highstreet brands.

2. Bag- ging glory Bags are the easiest way to make an impeccable style statement — be it the faux leather jhola s from Paharganj, the stylish sling bags from any flea market or the classic jute bags. You can also go for oversized bags in poppy colours like orange, green, yellow and blue.

3. Comfort rules
Let your footwear- choice be guided by practicality as well as style and stick to DU students’ trademark kolhapuri slippers and funky flats, for easy manoeuvrability between different lectures. Besides these, ballerinas and colourful wedges also have many takers in campus. “ Go for minty colours, they will keep you feeling fresh,” says final- year student Guneet Oberoi.

3. Accessorise girl
The plainest of outfits can hit all the right notes if you can master the art of accessorising. Chunky silver jewellery from Janpath, colourful bracelets and bangles from Dilli Haat, and thin belts in bright hues and oversized shades from the Mblock market are timeless DU staples. Classic aviators with coloured rims have also made a comeback. “ Easy accessories like a simple necklace of coloured beads or cocktail rings can make any outfit look stylish,” says DU alumnus and jewellery designer Muskaan.

4. Less is more
Keep your lipsticks and foundation for college fests or weekends out on the town. “ Make- up can earn you the image of a snob. All you need is kohl, and a tinted lip balm for a charming smile,” says Kapoor. Keep a sunscreen at hand.
