Reliance unveils upgraded 3G Tab

Image Reliance Communications has unveiled a new 3G-powered tablet in India that will soon be launched at Rs 14,499. This is the upgraded version of the tablet it rolled out in August last year and features a faster processor, better screen resolution and video calling capabilities.

Called the Reliance 3G Tab V9A, it runs onAndroid 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has a 7-inch display with 1024x600p resolution, 1.4GHz processor, 512MB RAM. Other features of the tablet include a 3MP rear camera, 3G support, VGA front camera for video calling. The tablet has pre-installed Documents To Go, BigFlix,Reliance World Online, Reliance TV, Facebook, Twitter and Orkut apps.

In a bid to lure buyers, Reliance Communications is offering free goodies worth Rs 6250 with its 3G Tab. Customers will receive free 3GB of data on 3G connection and free video calls on local and STD Reliance 3G devices for 3 months each. They will also get free postpaid voice rental for one year, free international calling worth Rs 250, year-long subscription of McAfee Mobile Security, free subscription of BigFlix for 2 months and a 4GB microSD card.

Though the tablet's specs appears competitive, it dissapoints on OS front, as contemporaries likeSamsung Tabs are running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Furthermore, there are many cheaper tablets in the Indian market that run on Ice Cream Sandwich. Moreover, the Google Nexus 7, which is due to hit the shelves in India in October, will be powered by Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
