Review, 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R

Ninja

Kawasaki has unveiled the 2013 Ninja 250R, which gets massive updates all around. The Japanese automaker will start sales of the updated Ninja 250R in global markets by the end of the year.

Ninja

The Kawasaki Ninja 250R is the world's best selling 250cc motorcycle for almost 20 years now. There has been absolutely no competition for the bike until recently when the Honda CBR250R was launched.

Ninja

The 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R gets changes to the styling as well as underneath the skin. The bike looks so much better now and the changes are expected to improve the way it rides as well.

Ninja

On the styling front, Kawasaki has given the Ninja 250R twin headlights along with a new fairing, muffler and tail section. The Ninja 250R also gets new alloy wheels with a new and unique design pattern.

Ninja

The fairing of the Ninja 250R has been re-worked to make it more aerodynamic. The company has also made changes to reduce vibrations and ensure better heat dissipation from the engine.

Ninja

The Kawasaki Ninja 250R continues to be powered by a 249cc, parallel twin engine which will produce around 33 BHP of peak power output. This engine has a very high red-line and produces peak power at 11,000 RPM.

Ninja

While the engine doesn't produce more power than before, it now features an all new cylinder, crank case, piston along with dual throttle valves and a revised fuel injection system. This ensures the Ninja 250R is smoother than its predecessor.

Ninja

Kawasaki has also redesigned the steel tube frame, which will cut down vibrations and offer better handling to the Ninja 250R. New suspension and braking system also debut on the bike.

Ninja

However the changes don't end up here, as Kawasaki has also given the Ninja 250R an anti-lock braking system (as an option). The company is bringing ABS to all its bikes and recently announced the 2013 Ninja 650R with ABS.

Ninja

The old Ninja 250R suffered from a very basic console but Kawasaki has now re-designed it completely to offer a very impressive looking instrument cluster. There is a digital speedometer, clock and odometer, while a large analogue tachometer is surrounded by warning lights all around.

Ninja

The 2013 Ninja 250R weighs the same as before but the ABS equipped model is heavier by 2 kgs. The company has also brought in new dual tone colours on the Ninja 250R.

Ninja

Currently Kawasaki sells the Ninja 250R in India through Bajaj Probiking showrooms (now KTM showrooms). The company sells less than 80 bikes a month but this could change with the launch of the 2013 Ninja 250R.

Ninja

When will the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250R come to India is still a mystery but we can expect the company to bring it sometime next year. Currently the Ninja 250R is brought in as a CKD from Thailand.

Ninja

The Kawasaki Ninja 250R has no real competition in India. It is a niche product catering to those looking for a powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle. Hyosung's GT250R is the closest in terms of engine hardware.

Ninja

The Kawasaki Ninja 250R is currently priced at around Rs. 3.1 lakhs (on-road). With the launch of the new model, one can expect the prices to increase owing to the depreciating Rupee.
