HCL America has laid off an unspecified number of Xerox employees that it took into its fold just a year ago. Around 600 Xerox employees were moved to HCL payrolls as part of a deal between the two companies. Reportedly, the affected personnel worked at Wilsonville, Oregon, facility of the company and worked on Xerox and HCL projects simultaneously.
In a statement, a spokesperson of the company reportedly said, "HCL has eliminated some engineering services positions that were held by former Xerox employees who were transferred to HCL America about a year ago. We are working closely with those affected to provide the proper assistance that will ensure a smooth transition."
Though the company has not disclosed the number of former Xerox employees it fired, reports say that "a dozen" people were laid off.
"It's a very small number compared to our overall US employee base of about 8,000 and our nearly 90,000 global employees. It's also a small percentage of those initially transferred from Xerox to HCL," the company said in the statement.
