Chicken Noodle Soup for the soul

Chicken Noodle SoupBorn from a chance visit to a tiny Tibetan restaurant in Kodaikanal, Chicken/Beef noodle soup has since become my comfort food for a cold wintery day and when it rains, it just gets better.  And hey, it’s not oily or fatty, and it’s got a good mix of carbohydrates, protein and good fats - all the right food groups you know you want to put in your tummy! Try and use lean meat with no fat on it, to ensure the fat content stays on the lower side. Till then…slurp away!

10 Easy and Delicious Ways to Use a Rotisserie Chicken

The beauty of a whole-chicken dinner, whether you've roasted the bird yourself or picked up one at the grocery store on your way home from work, is that there are almost always leftovers. And those tidbits can be turned into any number of brilliant second-day meals. Here are ten ideas for easy (and delicious) dishes.

A couple of notes: If you're using leftover chicken in a hot dish, you won't want to cook it again; add it to the dish close to the last minute of cooking, just so it has time to warm through. And don't throw out the bones. You can always use them to make stock.

Low fat foods can make you gain weight

Low fat options may not be as healthy as they seem, with lighter options having a higher sugar content and same number of calories as the standard option.

Low fat options may not be as healthy as they seem, with lighter options having a higher sugar content and same number of calories as the standard option.
Which? found that food labelling as ‘low fat’ is misleading as many have a high calorie countand contain a larger amount of sugar than if you were to eat the full fat option.
The consumer champion found that 6 in 10 people reported to opt for the lower fat option, believing it was the healthier choice.
Which? looked at low-fat, reduced-fat and light products from across all supermarkets, and compared them with their standard full-fat counterparts, looking at total calories and fat, sugar, and salt content.

The fertility diet

Make some simple food changes to help boost your fertility as a couple... scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast means slow-release carbs and protein, and eggs are rich in omega 3, ideal for male production of prostaglandin (controls hormone regulation). Andpumpkin seeds for him as they contain high zinc levels- needed to make the outer layer and tail of sperm... yes really!

Getting started
It’s important you start off in a healthy and positive manner, this means, getting your fertility back-on-track by seeing it as a joint project to do together, trying to make it an enjoyable exercise for you both. This can be anything from researching delicious (and nutritious) recipes together, to combining some regular exercise in your weekly schedules.

Clean right, eat right for healthy hair this monsoon

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) Is your hair falling, your scalp itchy and those lustrous locks getting sticky this monsoon? Worry not, experts have a host of suggestions, including simple homemade remedies like vinegar and methi seeds, to keep your hair healthy and sorted.
The problems occur because humidity leads to excessive perspiration and the scalp gets oily.
"Oil and sweat secretions tend to stick to hair and scalp. It also attracts grime and pollutants in the air. To handle all this, one needs to shampoo hair more frequently, especially if hair is oily," renowned beauty expert Shahnaz Husain told IANS.
Her advice is to use shampoos containing herbal extracts like shikakai, reetha, brahmi, amla and henna.
