Software giant Microsoft has reportedly started working on a seven-inch tablet for gamers.
According to a report by tech blog The Verge, Microsoft is building a 7-inch Xbox Surface tablet that will be used for gaming.
Sources familiar with plans at Microsoft's Redmond, Washington campus, have said that that initial hardware planning has begun.
According to The Telegraph, the specifications for the Xbox Surface tablet were leaked in June in the run up to Microsoft's Surface RT and Surface Pro announcement.
These included an ARM-based Texas Instruments processor and a screen resolution of 1280 x 720, the paper said.
The Xbox Surface is also expected to include high-bandwidth RAM designed for gaming tasks, it added.
According to the report, the tablet is expected to run a scaled-down version of Windows with a limited array of tablet functions such as messaging.
