E meter software for Android phone gets 4,000 downloads

 More than 4,000 commuters have so far downloaded the free software -- which gives you free Autorickshaw/Taxi E-meter on an Android phone.

The software will soon have a feature to send a mobile complaint against errant drivers directly to the RTO.Said software developer Chetan Temkar,"We got a tremendous response from readers/commuters. They have visited our site and downloaded not just the free e-meter, but also other softwares which help you while commuting by the suburban train (Western, Central and Harbour lines) and also by theBEST buses."

Android, Nokia MeeGo phones hacked using NFC

A skilled hacker has revealed a new technique to hijack a smartphone via a short-range radio technology known as Near Field Communication (NFC).

Charlie Miller, a research consultant at security firm Accuvant, created tools that forced phones to visit websites seeded with attack software, which helped him look at and steal data contained in a handset. According to the BBC, Miller, who demonstrated the work at the Black Hat hacker conference in Las Vegas, showed how to attack three separate phones, namely, theSamsung Nexus S, the Google Galaxy Nexus, which both run Android, and the Nokia N9, which runs on the MeeGo system. To attack the phones Miller wrote the software to control a reader tag that works in conjunction with NFC, which works when devices are brought close together or are placed near a reader chip.

Google Updates iOS Earth App with 3D, Maps With New HD Shots

It's been a week of furious updating for Google's mapping and location teams.

First off, Google updated its Google Earth app for iOS on Thursday to include 14 regions' worth of three-dimensional imagery – the same features Android users have enjoyed since late June – and beat Apple on its own quest to integrate 3D mapping to iOS natively.

"With today's release of Google Earth for iOS you can literally fly through breathtaking 3D city landscapes and images and follow virtual tours of places you've never been -- all with a simple swipe of your fingertip," wrote Google's Peter Birch, Google Earth product manager, in a blog post. "It's a new, and I think magical way to explore the world in which we live."

Intel launches Me The Musical on Facebook

Facebook users have a fun new way to experience the popular social media network thanks to Intel's "Me The Musical." 

Intel's "Me The Musical" creates a personalised animated movie which takes Facebook users on an entertaining journey, via song and dance, through world events.
