IRCTC books record 5.02 lakh e tickets on March 1

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) booked more than five lakh rail e-tickets on March 1, surpassing the earlier one-day sales record set in July last year.

The corporation booked 5.02 lakh e-tickets, crossing the earlier figure of 4.96 lakh e-tickets booked on July 7 last year, an IRCTC official said. 

Evernote hacked, Emails, encrypted passwords stolen

Cloud notetaking service Evernote has been hacked, the company has revealed today, with an unidentified attacker compromising servers and extracting usernames, email addresses, and encrypted passwords. The attack has forced a mandatory password reset, meaning all users must change their password before they can log back into their account, but Evernote says there is no evidence of either notes being viewed by a third-party, or payment details of Evernote Premium or Business users being accessed.

Mobile threats, Android most vulnerable

Kaspersky Lab in a recent statement said that mobile users were actively searching for software from suspicious sources and taking no precautions when launching an unknown programme - all of which makes it easier for cybercriminals to infect devices.

Kaspersky Lab's key mobile forecast for 2012 had said that cybercriminals indeed focused their attention on the highly popular Android platform, and the number of threats for it continued to grow at a rapid pace. In January 2012, the lab had less than 6,000 unique malware samples for Android in its database, but the year ended with an astounding figure of 43,000+ malicious programmes. Over 99% of new threats found in 2012 targeted Android-based smartphones and tablets, with less than 1% aimed at devices running Symbian and BlackBerry operating systems or supporting the mobile version of Java.

Samsung India announces iPad mini rival Note 510

Samsung has announced its Apple iPad mini rival Galaxy Note 510 in India. The device, which features an 8-inch touchscreen, was announced at Samsung Forum event.

Galaxy Note 510 comes with a TFT display that supports 1280x800p resolution and 189ppi pixel density. It runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) layered with Nature UX and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 2GB RAM. The device supports microSD cards up to 64GB and is powered by a 4,600mAh battery.
