Online travel portal Yatra.com has acquired hotel and holidays booking website TravelGuru.com from Travelocity Global. From July 1, 2011, TravelGuru will retain its same branding and operate as a 100 per cent subsidiary of Yatra. This is the company’s third acquisition in the past 18 months. In January 2012, the company had acquired online event and entertainment guide BuzzInTown.com. In August 2011, Aug 2011 Yatra.com acquired Bangalore-based Hotel GDS (global distribution system) company MagicRooms Solutions, through its hotels subsidiary Intech Hotel Solutions and ticket consolidator Travel Services International Pvt. Ltd (TSI).
According to this MoneyControl report, the acquisition has been made in cash and has been funded through the company's interal accruals and while the management refused to disclose the exact size of the deal, sources have pegged it at around USD 20 million. TravelGuru has a hotel distribution network offering access to more than 6,500 hotels in India and 72,000 hotels worldwide.
Dhruv Shringi, Co-founder and CEO, Yatra.com, said, “Getting TravelGuru into our fold opens up our proftofolio. They have relationships with 6,500-7,000 hotels and that relationship will now flow to Yatra. Our game plan is that by the end of the fiscal year, we're up to 8,500 and by the end of next fiscal year, we'd be at 12,000 hotels, which would give us access to 80% of the properties in the country.”
Travelocity North America President Roshan Mendis said, "The two brands have obvious synergy and are an excellent fit. Moving forward, we will work closely with the Yatra.Com team on a transition plan and an arrangement to source India hotel content for Travelocity Global so that our customers continue to have the best access to accommodation options in India."
