Naresh Wadhwa, who has been Cisco's country manager for India since 2007 and who will quit the networking major later this month, plans to start a venture that will seek to make infrastructure more intelligent.
Wadhwa will partner with a large infrastructure company for this venture, but he said he would be able to name the partner only next month, after he completes his term at Cisco.
"Technology is still not used much in residential and commercial complexes, new townships, hotels, hospitals, seaports and airports. But with more and more devices becoming internet-enabled and intelligent, our plan is to bring these together to create solutions for the infrastructure sector," he said.
Wadhwa does not plan to design products; the intent is to combine existing technologies (where Wadhwa's expertise lies) and a deep understanding of the infrastructure sector (which the partner will bring) to create commercially successful solutions. "Every infrastructure is different, every township is different. We'll use our know-how to ensure cost and commercial viability for each one," Wadhwa said.
Cisco in recent years has had a big focus on creating products for cities and communities under its smart+connected communities initiative. Much of that has been driven out of the Bangalore R&D centre.
The products have been used in projects like Lavasa near Pune, Songdo in South Korea and a luxury project of Mantri Developers in Bangalore . Wadhwa, who has spent 15 years in Cisco, plans to work on similar projects. "Cisco will be a partner for us," he said.
Meanwhile, at Cisco, Jeff White, VP for its service provider business in Asia-Pacific based in Singapore, is expected to replace Wadhwa.
