Mumbai, June 26: Videocon has teamed up with Philips NV of the Netherlands and ST Microelectronics ' a leading chipmaker ' to launch a range of LED television sets that can receive and broadcast TV signals without a set-top box.
Videocon and its six partners in the so-called Digital Direct Broadcast (DDB) platform are looking to revolutionise the world in much the same way that the Android software has changed the world of smartphones.
This is the second time that Videocon is taking a stab at this opportunity. Five years ago, it failed to create a storm with its satellite TV.
The other partners in the DDB Platform are Irdeto, a leading innovative software and application maker, Nivio, a cloud computing brand, Faroudja, an Emmy award winning audio-video technology, and Strata, the world's leading sound technology.
The DDB technology ushers in features such as direct satellite signal reception that will help in receiving digital signals without any set-top box.
It also enables Internet browsing featuring Facebook, Twitter, Google, Skype, Yahoo and other applications, and over- the-air software upgrades. A 450MHz dual core processor integrated with a 14-bit processor capable of creating a 4 trillion colour bandwidth along with motion enhancement and motion correction capabilities are its other features.
