OlaCabs plans to reach 10 cities across India by 2012, launches iPhone app

Mumbai-based online aggregator of car rentals and point-to-point cab services OlaCabs which currently operates in Mumbai, has planned to launch its services in Delhi and Bangalore soon. By the end of the year, the company plans to offer services in 10 cities across India. Meanwhile, the company has also launched an iPhone application, which allows users to book a cab with one touch on their iPhones. The company plans to launch the BlackBerry version of the app within a month.

The iPhone app launch follows the launch of company’s Android app last month, which has already seen more than 5,000 downloads. With the new app, customers can book the nearest OlaCab and track its movement towards them. Currently, OlaCabs receives 10 per cent of its bookings through mobile phones. The company expects this to go up to 20 per cent in the next 6 months.
In April 2012, OlaCabs.com had raised Series A funding from Tiger Global Management. Prior to that, in April 2011, the company received an undisclosed amount of angel investment from Rehan yar Khan, Anupam Mittal and several others.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO, OlaCabs said, “With the expected proliferation of smartphones in India, it made good business sense for us to launch apps to help smartphone users easily access Olacabs. The launch of the iPhone app, and the earlier Android app, are an extension of our commitment of making cab booking easy and hassle-free for our customers.”
