Nasscom will focus on new revenue streams

IT industry body Nasscom announced that it has appointed Krishnakumar Natarajan, CEO of Mindtree, as its chairman for the year 2013-14. He succeeds N Chandrasekaran , CEO of TCS.
R Chandrasekaran, group chief executive of technology & operations at Cognizant, has been appointed vice chairman. Natarajan , fondly known as KK, says he is excited about the role as Nasscom is at a very interesting juncture.

You are someone who has seen the country's tech industry right from the time of its inception. How does it feel to be chosen to be an active contributor to its next orbit of growth?
I am excited about it. I've seen the industry from the time it had virtually no base to one now with a whopping $106 billion in revenue. Nasscom has an ambitious mandate to take the industry to $300 billion in the next 7 to 8 years. It's going to be an exciting journey. The N R Narayana Murthy-led committee has recommended that Nasscom should help the industry to become trust worthy, socially responsible , innovative and friendly. Only a body like Nasscom can play an effective catalyst role to achieve these qualities.
What are Nasscom's priorities now?
The focus is on three things: to facilitate inclusive growth by inviting a diverse set of stakeholders into the industry; locating new revenue streams, market opportunities and industry verticals (governments, public sector, healthcare, etc); and expanding to newer markets including Japan and Africa, both of which are huge opportunities. Nasscom has also spoken about its vision to help build 10,000 startup ventures in the next 10 years. All these exercises are aimed at creating a huge eco-system of immense capabilities . This will take the industry pan-India , and give it broad-based growth.

How much time will you devote to Nasscom?
I need to devote at least 20% of my time for Nasscom activities now. My new responsibility will surely eat into my weekend get-aways . I need to do some adjustments , with the help of my wife and our sons.
