Olympic Torch hotspots

Did you know that the Olympic Torch will travel through a whopping 1019 communities on its relay route through the UK this year? The 1019 communities are set to make the traditional relay route one of the most celebrated and exciting yet. However, as with all things in life, some celebrations will be better than others. Here are 12 of the best, must-see celebrations:
Land's End, Cornwall — 19th May 2012
The Olympic Torch Relay kicks off at the iconic Land's End spot in Cornwall.  If you want to catch all of the action, you better get up early as formal photos begin at 7am. After the photo-shoot there's a street carnival with fairground performers and magicians.

Eden Project, Cornwall - 19th May 2012
If you want to see the Olympic torch in a way that no one has before, then head to the Eden Project — an arena of stunning gardens and conservation. The torch is being flown in Eden's rainforest balloon.
George Square, Glasgow — 8th / 9th June 2012
Although the Olympic Torch arrives in Glasgow on the 9th of June, in true Scots style, the celebrations begin the night before. A big party is to be held in St George's Square. The square is in a beautiful area of the city, which is lit with hundreds of tiny lights. It promises to be a great night.
Gateshead International Stadium, Gateshead — 16th June 2012
If you love sports then you'll watch the Olympic Torch doing a lap of Gateshead's International Stadium. The track event is free for all visitors and we've heard the best spot is the Tyne and Wear stand.
Blackpool Tower, Blackpool — 22nd June 2012
This traditional seaside resort is organising a fabulous event for the Olympic Torch.  The celebration is to take part in the evening and on the arrival of the torch a Celebration Cauldron will be lit. Natalie Wyatt, Head of visitBlackpool, promises that the town "will deliver an amazing spectacle."
Dock Tower, Grimsby — June 27th 2012
Grimsby is to host another colorful Olympic Torch celebration. When the Torch reaches this North East Lincolnshire town it, and the town's chosen torchbearer, will abseil from the Dock Tower. There will also be evening celebrations at the Meridian Park Showground.
National Ice Centre, Nottingham — June 28th 2012
The National Ice Centre is putting on a truly exciting, one-of-a-kind performance to welcome the arrival of the Olympic torch. They have recruited ice skating stars and Nottingham legends Torvill & Dean to put on an ice gala spectacular that will be well worth seeing. The event is also free.
National Space Centre, Leicester — July 3rd 2012
Do you want to go to a sleepover at the National Space Centre? On July 3rd 2012 you can. The centre is hosting a special sleepover event where children who belong to groups and clubs can take a nighttime tour of the galleries, see an Astronaut planetarium show, and sleep in the gallery. Plus you get to see the Olympic torch leave the following morning.
Cromer Pier, Cromer — July 4th 2012
If you want to be involved in the Olympic celebrations and get a dose of a traditional British seaside holiday then you have to visit Cromer this summer. The traditional pier is putting on a Summer Seaside Special performance that will travel through the acts that made Britain great; from The Beatles to Bond, and Dusty to Adele.
Trinity College, Cambridge— July 8th 2012
Cambridge is an idyllic and historical UK city that is home to one of the most prestigious universities in the world; Cambridge University. When the Olympic Torch arrives it is going to be involved in the Great Court Run — an age old tradition whereby runners attempt a lap of the court in the time that the clock strikes the hour of 12.
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock — July 8th 2012
Although little has been revealed about the celebrations that are to take place at Blenheim Palace, it is well worth a visit. The palace was the childhood home to one of Britain's most prestigious Prime Ministers; Sir Winston Churchill. The palace is resplendent and beautiful — especially in July.
Cobb Harbour, Lyme Regis — July 12th 2012
The Olympic Torch celebration at Lyme Regis is set to be a fun-filled day for the whole family. A local string quartet group called Bojangles will be putting on a singing and dancing act. They'll be performing their usual songs, but whilst attempting fencing, rowing, gymnastics and boxing, to tie in the Olympic theme.
